SELECTION OF SUPPORT WORKERS

Warrina Services acknowledges the importance of a good working relationship and rapport between Support Workers and Consumers. Therefore, a great deal of importance is placed initially on matching the skills and personality of the Support Worker with the needs and personality of the Consumer. Consumers are supported in the selection of their own compatible Support Worker.

Support Workers receive ongoing training to ensure quality service delivery, and to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to respond to the needs of people with a disability whom they support.

Support Workers

Additional to regular training opportunities Support Workers employed by Warrina Services also adhere to the following requirements:-

  1. Three months probationary period;
  2. Aquisition of a Disability Services Queensland Positive Working Card following DSQ's Criminal Check;
  3. Ongoing supervision of work performance and annual Performance Appraisals by Coordination staff;

  7. Confidentiality: The Support Worker will not divulge at any time, either during their term of employment or thereafter any information concerning a Consumer of the service other than information that is necessary to assist the Consumer (with the informed consent of the Consumer) ensuring their rights are met;
  8. Training/buddy shifts: buddy shifts is a method of peer training used to orientate and train new staff to meet the individual support needs of Consumers;
  9. A Support Worker may, with the prior approval of the Coordinator, attend conferences, training courses and seminars during normal working hours as long as the Consumer’s needs are met and considered paramount;
  10. Compulsory training on manual handling is provided each year;
  11. All Support Workers will have a current drivers license and a safe driving record;
  12. All Support Workers who provide personal care support will be appraised each year in regards to their performance by a Registered Nurse.
