BLOCK ALLOCATION OF SUPPORT

Warrina Services currently provides individual support to Consumers, who are waiting for individual funding. This funding is provided to us by Disability Services Queensland. Warrina Services has a prioritisaton process to objectively allocate these support hours. The eligibility criteria for this support is that the person with a disability must be under 65 years of age, and has either a physical, intellectual, psychiatric disability, and/or an acquired brain injury.

If upon entry to Warrina Services there are no available resources/support services to offer to the person, then the details and circumstances of that person are placed on Warrina Services’ Waiting List. Once resources become available to provide support, the person in most critical need is contacted, with a view of an offer of support. Offers of support are not necessarily made according to the length of waiting by an individual or family. Each person on the Warrina Service’s Waiting List is also advised and/or assisted to register their need with Disability Services Queensland for individual funding.

For block allocation of support, Warrina Services prioritises support according to the following criteria:-

  • Whether the person is living independently;
  • Whether the primary carer of informal support is aging;
  • Whether the person is not in receipt of individual funding;
  • If the level of support needs is complex;
  • Lack of, or minimal, informal and formal support;
  • There is a risk of breakdown of the family unit;

If you wish to make an inquiry, or you are interested to access support through Warrina Services, please contact our office and we will begin the referral process.

EMERGENCY SUPPORT

Warrina Services regularly applies on behalf of individuals with a disability for emergency funding. This funding is accessed from the Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre and the Cerebral Palsy League, which allows us to provide support to individuals and their Carers on a short-term basis. The aim of this support is to relieve critical situations and to help prevent the breakdown of the family unit.

ACQUIRED BRAIN INJURY INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICE

Individuals, families and professional bodies are able to contact Warrina Services to access information in regards to the services available to people with an acquired brain injury. This service includes assistance in making referrals to appropriate Service Providers, and other relevant services. This program does not provide direct support services to the person with an acquired brain injury.

PRIVATE SERVICES

Private services can be arranged so that people with a disability, their families and/or advocates, can purchase support through Warrina Services. Private fees will be provided on request.

PROJECT 300

Project 300 was introduced in 1996, to assist people with a psychiatric disability who, due to a lack of support services available in the community, had become long stay residents in Wolston Park, Baillie Henderson Hospital and Mosman Hall psychiatric hospitals.

Warrina Services has been involved in Project 300 since 1997. Project 300 has provided people with packages of support, enabling them to move out of hospital and return to live in the community of their choice. Support may include clinical case management from Community Mental Health Service, Support Workers and Coordination support from Warrina Services, and a Supports Facilitator through Disability Services Queensland. Housing has been made available through Queensland Housing, specific to the individual’s needs of each Consumer under this funding initiative. Due to the intensive team work of all stakeholders this program has proven to be very successful.

POST SCHOOL OPTIONS

Individual funding is available, through Disability Services Queensland, for young adults with an intellectual disability, exiting special education programs and/or services. These post school option programs provide transitional assistance to assist the individual to develop skills and to support the person’s potential to acquire community membership through vocational pursuits.
